It was a saturday night in 1998 when I just had watched the acclaimed movie by the danish director Las Von Trier named "The Idiots". While my friends were stirring up about this new "brilliant" director I had own reflexions.
Yesterday Mr. Von Trier added one more item to his parody set stating that he was himself a nazi. People that thinks Lars Von Trier is a genius (and the real idiots in this plot) got upset and astonished. He is just an unusual movie director, that's it. While he probably wipe his "tucci" with the Dogma 95 Manifesto, others degrade their selves by worshiping a mere piece of personal marketing.
Don't take me wrong. His movies are good but there is a clear sense of controversy on his films that are obviously fake, not to say phoney. It still has interesting questions about middle class society and how they easily settle forgetting important issues on their collective psyche.
Particularly about "The Idiots" there is a sequence where the actors have an explicit (and out of context) sex scene. Lately I'd learnt that one of the actresses were actually a professional porn actress. There was no new approach on acting as it was published by some movie reviewers. It was just a shocking shot with one clear aim, call peoples attention to this low budget "documentary-style" movie.
Some people may think that he is the idiot but we are all perhaps. We watched his movies, we cared about his comments and we are here reading (and writing) a text about him. His mockery on us may had surpassed its limits but it's not a surprise. The problem is that people still thinks that his is brilliant. He is in fact just one more smart ass director.
